Where There’s a Fire Pit, There’s Fun

May 15, 2019

Installing a fire pit is like doubling or tripling the size of your living room. It creates a cozy atmosphere for entertaining your guests and family, year-round. Here are six reasons why a fire pit needs to be the next stop on your quest to build the perfect backyard.

  1. They are timeless fan favorites. No one is ever too old or young to feel a little excitement from seeing those lapping, hypnotic flames billowing out of a fire pit. Fires often conjure up heart-warming (and hand-warming) memories of idyllic camping trips or romantic evenings from the past.

  2. They help you stay warm during the winter months. When it’s cold outside, it can be tempting to hibernate indoors all of the time, but we all know this can lead to the disillusionment and restlessness known as cabin fever. A fire pit is the perfect compromise, inviting you to get outside and enjoy the cool, crisp air without feeling miserably cold.

  3. They keep the mosquitoes at bay in the summertime. Like most insects, mosquitoes don’t appreciate smoke, so the addition of a fire pit (especially in tandem with other effective pest control measures) will encourage them to find a new hang-out spot. There’s no buzzkill quite like the buzzing barrage of those bloodthirsty little villains, and any measure to keep them at bay is one worth investing in (at least, it is to us).

  4. They create a natural focal point. The presence of a fire pit invites loved ones to unplug from their devices and forego the TV for an evening spent truly in the moment, telling ghost stories or funny jokes over a glass of fine wine or a warm, delightfully sticky s’more.

  5. They provide a safer alternative to a traditional bonfire. Bonfires can get out of hand really quickly, especially if you live in a windy region (like Oklahoma). Installing a fire pit allows you more control over the size of the flames, and they are much easier to put out. Gone are the days where you had to  supervise the dying flame closely to catch any runaway embers like you did with a traditional bonfire or campfire. It is worth mentioning, however, that it’s advised to choose a spot that’s at least ten feet from your house for safety reasons.

  6. They inspire you to make the most of your backyard space. Many of us have backyard space that isn’t being utilized to its fullest potential. Fire pits are easy to operate and require little maintenance, unlike other backyard projects you might take on. With so many different styles to choose from, you can select a fire pit that blends in seamlessly with the rest of your backyard aesthetic and enhances its ambiance.
